Hér er upptaka af fundi í Safnahúsinu í Reykjavík hinn áttunda ágúst síðastliðinn. Þar var fjallað um vígvæðingu Evrópusambandsins og misbeitingu valds.
Þessi umræða tel ég að eigi ernidi við öll þau sem greiða atkvæði um aðildarumsókn að Evrópusambandinu.

A moment shared by the entire world may change that world; a photo of a little girl burning from napalm did indeed that. The Vietnam war did not thereby come to a close but now the world was awake; in the West millions of people took to the streets asking for disarmament and peace and in the East there there were also demonstrations; people wanting more freedom, freedom in peace – peaceful freedom; and the democratic waves swept into Hofdi in Reykjavik the leaders of the world powers; it was not their initiative, the initiative came from the grassroot.
But the “military industrial complex” was not happy.
But they found an answer in the words of Cicero: “in war time the law falls silent”.
But then a war was needed.
And we had the war on terror.
And the world became silent, or rather was silenced.
The Patriot Act came into force and we had Guantanamo.
I say it was Jeffrey Sachs who brought Cicero to my attention; it might have been Alfred de Zayas – nevertheless whoever it was they speak in one voice on these issues.
Both have been an inspiration to me and people throughout the world. So has been Thomas Fazi who also spoke at the meeting.
Now we have the European Union using the same methods as Bush jr. , Rumsfeld and Cheeney.
Russia being the enemy justifying Draconian measures against all those who dare criticize EU´s foreign and military policy. The same applies to NATO and non-EU states in that military alliance.
The “sanctions” policy, now being enforced is explained on the official EU website: Not meant to be “punitive” only a guidance how to think and how to act! As I see it this is the vocabulary of an authoritarian state in the making. The interview with German journalist Husseyin Dogru bears this witness.
The idea is to create subservience based on fear. And thereby the door is opened up for the “military industrial complex” taking the lead as Eisenhower had warned against on leaving office as President of the United States in 1961.
The world is changing or rather it is being changed.
That certainly is the case with the European Union. I asked Alfred de Zayas, former UN independent expert on the international order, writer and scholar, to explain. Then comes Husseyin Dogru a victim of EU sanctions, followd by Thomas Fazi, the Italian analyst of world renown and then Jeffrey Sachs professor at Columbia University in New York, who hardly needs further introduction.
